Spray Foam Insulation - New Build

Here at Hometherm we use Enertite water blown insulation foam.

Foam can be applied anywhere fibreglass was traditionally installed. Because it is sprayed, the foam fits all shapes, corners, and cavities perfectly.

Enertite is a water-blown foam insulation that minimises air leakage for increased energy efficiency, creates a healthier indoor environment, reduces airborne sounds and offers greater design freedom. Enertite maintains its performance with no loss of thermal resistance over time. It does not shrink, sag or settle. Enertite adheres to all construction materials and is the perfect insulation for walls, attics, ceilings and floors.

Enertite expands up to 100 times its volume in seconds to fill every crack and crevice while remaining flexible so that the integrity of the building envelope seal remains intact over time. It acts as a complete insulation and air barrier to minimize air leakage and seal the building envelope for optimal airtightness.

The Results
Insulation and perfect air seal in a single application. Even the thinnest cracks are perfectly sealed.
High R-value of 3.7 per inch of application thickness.
Seven time better air seal compared with traditional insulation.
Elimination of unplanned air-borne moisture movement and related condensation.

Lifetime performance
Enertite foam will perform for the lifetime of the building, never needing replacement or restoration.

Energy Efficient
Energy conservation is becoming more essential and many trades, design professionals, homeowners and building owners are beginning to adopt a new attitude towards the types of building products being selected to increase energy efficiency.
Enertite can potentially reduce air infiltration by more than 90% with just the application alone. There is no need for tapes, glues and sealing agents to acquire the airtight thermal envelope necessary for increased energy efficiency.
In one step, it creates a complete insulation and air barrier system to seal all gaps and crevices that compromise airtightness. Its effective air infiltration control allows for HVAC equipment rightsizing for optimal energy efficiency, thereby delivering energy cost savings of up to 50% versus traditional insulation options.

Healthy Indoor Environment
Enertite contributes to a healthy indoor environment in three critical ways:
1. Enertite is water-blown and does not emit harmful gases. Enertite contains no ozone-depleting substances and does not off-gas over time, unlike some conventional insulation that can deteriorate as time passes. Enertite maintains its efficiency with no loss of U value to provide healthy indoor air (and energy savings) for its occupants today and for years to come. Selecting products that provide longevity, like Enertite, reduces the impact on the environment because it eliminates the need for the installation of additional material in the future.
2. Enertite creates a continuous air barrier in the walls, ceilings and floors, which minimizes the intrusion of outdoor allergens and pollutants.
3. As an integrated insulation and air barrier, Enertite effectively minimizes air leakage and accompanying moisture (air leakage accounts for as much as 99% of moisture movement in a structure

Sound Control
The perfect air seal is also the perfect sound barrier.Enertite is a very effective sound barrier. The use of Enertite open-cell spray foam insulation between floors and in all of the interior and exterior walls throughout your home can bring a dramatic improvement to the level of exterior noise that can enter the home and also control the interior noise between rooms and floors, giving you a whole new level of peace and comfort. Enertite not only combats airborne sounds, but it also works to eliminate pipe vibrations caused by showers and toilet flushing. When Enertite is sprayed around pipes, vibration and sound transfer are significantly reduced. Whether it is a home or a hotel, Enertite is designed to provide its occupants with a quiet comfort that has a positive impact on quality of life, productivity and peace-of-mind.

Roof Construction

If using Enertite in a new construcion the expanding foam can potentially push the breathable membrane against the slates or tiles. An air vent between the breathable membrane and tiles must be maintained. There are 2 ways to achieve this.
1. The best and most cost effective way to achieve this is to counter batten the roof at construction stage.
Seee the photos below illustrating the difference between a counter and non counter battened roof..

2. The second way to achieve an air vent in an non counter battened roof is to use vent board fitted between the rafters an inch below the breathable membrane. This is installed by Hometherm in advance of spaying Enertite foam between the rafters.
